Course Description:

The 8 hour Site Safety Manager Refresher course is a refresher to the 40 Hour Site Safety Manager Course and the 8 Hour Site Safety Coordinator Course, which are a comprehensive review of Chapter 33 and the Rules of the City of New York that pertain to public protection. This course provides students with safe job practices in New York City.

 

They will be introduced to the hazards of working in the New York City construction environment and the specific methods and work practices that are necessary on an urban construction site. 

This course is a renewal requirement for the holder of a NYC Department of Buildings Site Safety Manager or Site Safety Coordinator Certificate.​

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the students shall be able to:

  1. List differences between Site safety Manager, Site Safety Coordinator, and their responsibilities.

  2. Identify when a Superintendent is needed and what his responsibilities are.

  3. Explain what a concrete safety manger is and his/her responsibilities.

  4. Explain what a Fire Safety Manager is and his/her responsibilities.

  5. Recall and discuss the major safety factors related to construction site work.

  6. Apply the appropriate safety measures by deciding what controls, systems, and PPE to utilize to protect, not only the public, but employees from injuries and or fatalities.

  7. Explain what the focus four hazards are.

  8. Identify each hazard and correct it using controls and or other means of protection.

  9. Define the rules of New York City related to construction.

  10. List the rules related to Fire Safety on a construction site.

  11. Explain NYC DOB chapter 33 Safeguards during Construction and Demolition.

  12. List and define NYC DOT rules and permits.

  13. Discuss the General administrative rules as related to a construction site.

  14. Identify the permits required and the expiration for each.

  15. Explain what events/situations DOB must be notified for.

  16. List which Plans are to be on site during construction.

  17. Define what a site safety plan is and the ability to demonstrate what it must contain.

  18. Explain Site job safety and describe how to maintain safety.

  20. Explain Safety Protocol for concrete, Standpipe inspection, Crane and derricks, Supported/Suspended Scaffold and sheds.

 

Methods of Instruction:

A combination of lectures, PowerPoint presentations, open discussions, and testing will be used throughout the course.

Prerequisites:

Student must be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in. Valid photo ID required. Please note that this is a refresher course meaning that it is NOT to be used as an initial course. Students are required to have taken an initial course, either the 40 Hour Site Safety Manager or 8 Hour Site Safety Coordinator, before taking this refresher. Students MUST provide a copy of their initial or refresher certificate either by email or in person prior to taking this refresher course.

Successful Completion:

In order to receive a certificate/card for the course, students must:

  • Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered. No personal interpreters permitted. 

  • Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.

  • Attend all required hours of the course. Any make up sessions must be completed within six months from the course start date.

  • Participate during class activities and reviews.

  • Complete tests with a passing grade of 70%.

Attendance Policy: 

Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities. Make-up time is permitted only at the discretion of the school's management.

Unsuccessful Course Completion
Students receiving a failing grade on their final exam must take and repay for the course at a later date and time, at the same or then existing current higher tuition price.
