Course Description:
The 4 hour NYC-DOB- Scaffold User course is intended for any worker who uses supported scaffolds of any height, including single frames, rolling towers, baker scaffolds, and stair towers of less than 40′. Newly updated with the latest the NYC-DOB requirements, training includes: preventing falls; electrical hazards; prevention of falling objects; proper inspection and loading scaffolds; Chapter 33 building regulations; proper use of a personal fall arrest systems; and hands-on demonstration of correct full body harness use. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a picture ID card, valid for 4 years.
Audience:
This course is required for all workers using supported scaffolding on construction sites in the confines of New York City.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the students shall be able to:

Compare and contrast unsafe act and an unsafe condition in supported scaffold with those of a suspended Scaffold.

List the three basic types of scaffold (supported, suspended, and Aerial Lifts).

Demonstrate knowledge on the different criteria for supported scaffold to suspended scaffold.

Identify the hazards associated with electricity, falling objects and how to use PPE and other equipment to avoid falls in general.

Identify why scaffold accidents lead to new rules for users in scaffolds in NYC and list the new rules or procedures that were put in place as a result of fatal accidents.

Explain the importance of notification of scaffold accidents and follow the procedure in case of a scaffold accident in the City of New York.
Methods of Instruction:
A combination of lectures, PowerPoint presentations, open discussions, and testing will be used throughout the course.
Prerequisites.
Student must be able to communicate with the instructor in the language the course is held in. Valid picture ID required.
Successful Completion:
In order to receive a certificate/card for the course, students must:

Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered. No personal interpreters permitted.

Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.

Attend all required hours of the course. Any make up sessions must be completed within six months from the course start date.

Participate during class activities and reviews.

Complete tests with a passing grade of at least 70%
Attendance Policy:
Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities. Make-up time is permitted only at the discretion of the school’s management.
Unsuccessful Course Completion:
Students receiving a failing grade on their final exam must take and repay for the course at a later date and time, at the same or then existing current higher tuition price.
School of Construction Safety is accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) and is authorized to issue the IACET CEU.
